DWP Work Choice transition events DWP is organising three events across the United Kingdom for existing WORKSTEP providers. The events will focus on the transition to the new Work Choice programme. The events are scheduled for: 12 November 2009 – Edinburgh (Macdonald Roxburghe Hotel) 19 November 2009 – Leeds (Q Hotels Queens) 24 November 2009 – Cardiff (Parc Hotel by Thistle) The agenda during the morning will focus on transition and the afternoon session will be more relevant to representatives from supported businesses. Places are limited to two for each provider. Employer Engagement training BASE is running another of its widely acclaimed training courses in employer engagement. The event takes place at Wavertree, Liverpool on 11-12 November and there are still a few places available. You’ll find more details and a booking form at www.base-uk.org/training Disability Legislation and Employment Law 2 December – Deighton Centre, Huddersfield 15 December – IBIS Hotel, Birmingham This one day event will improve your understanding of disability legislation and the application of employment law. This course will help practitioners to act effectively on behalf of customers experiencing difficulties in the workplace. This events is to be repeated in Birmingham and London in the near future. You’ll find more details and a booking form at www.base-uk.org/training Enterprise and Employment for people with disabilities and learning difficulties 13 November 2009, London – 9.30am to 3.30pm 30 November 2009, Birmingham – 9.30am to 3.30pm 7 December 2009, York – 9.30am to 3.30pm Increasing economic participation through sustainable employment is a key priority in Learning for Living and Work – the LSC’s national strategy to improve education and training opportunities for people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. These three conferences will: provide an opportunity to share policy and practice developments that enable people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities to progress to employment discuss arrangements to take forward the Learning and Skills Council’s Learning for Living and Work and Mental Health strategies present the ‘Learning for Work: Employability and people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities report’, compiled following nine regional conferences and the social enterprise research project They will also provide information on the National Apprenticeship Service and people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities; the Valuing Employment Now strategy and the LSC Learning for Living and Work strategy and the Mental Health strategy.
